Costa Rican coffees are a bit of a rarity here at BSC, we try to wait until something really unique comes along! Expertly produced by Johel and Mathias Monge, carefully brought to Canada in vac-sealed boxes by Apex Coffee Imports, this coffee consists of Red & Yellow Catuai Varietals, utilizing the prized Red Honey Process (highlighting this coffees fruit - forward flavour profile). Grown at an altitude of 1800 - 2000 MASL, and dried on raised beds for 15 days.
Honey Processing sits between Washed and Natural processing. The coffee cherry peel is removed but some of the fruit remains while the cherries dry. Red Honey coffees produce some of the cleanest cups within the Honey Process category.
We have been waiting a long time for a Costa Rican coffee that represents what the cutting edge of this region can be; Balancing sweet pie-like flavours of plum, blackberry and blackcurrant, the depth to this coffee incredible. The finish is quick and clean, reminiscent of green tea.
